Champ Car Grand Prix of Road America Race Quotes A.J. Allmendinger ...
Champ Car Grand Prix of Road America
A.J. Allmendinger #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I think that's all we could do. Obviously, Sebastien and Bruno showed all weekend in the dry that they probably had the cars to beat. It took a little bit of luck with the pit stops, the yellows to come by.
I mean, it really just shows that the whole Forsythe Championship Racing team, what they're made of. At the beginning of the race, we had nothing for Sebastien. I was barely trying to hang with Dan. Seemed like we kept making some changes, kept trying to play the tire strategy right, which tires were going to be better on my car, whether it was the reds or the blacks. Just kept plugging away."
Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm quite happy with the result, especially after turn one. But after being leading, at one moment I thought I going to win again Road America, but didn't happen. Anyway, was a great day today. I'm very happy that Katherine didn't get hurt because when I looked, the car was pretty nasty. That's a very fast corner, so I'm pretty happy with that. Pretty happy that Cristiano had a chance a couple of days ago to go back to Miami. That's the most important thing. Again, very, very happy after not racing here in 2005, race here in Road America, that's my favorite track. I love to race here, so I'm very happy with that."
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Well, I think you said all about it. Just about the most frustrating day for the McDonald's team. When you have that dominant a car, it just seems unreal that you can actually lose it. Just shows how uncertain these races are when the yellows come at the wrong time, you catch a dumb ass at the wrong time. That's that.
I was really upset because losing three full seconds in the in lap to a guy that's running around five seconds off the pace is not acceptable at that level of racing. It still happens. That lost us the race. Just very unhappy with the situation. In the meantime, you know, we were looking forward to go racing and show everything we had. We did that the whole time. Just a wrong timing prevented us to win that race."
Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "From 13th to fourth is a very good result. The Gulfstream -- PKV Racing team had high hopes coming here...the rain didn't help us which is strange because in Montreal and Cleveland the car was great in the rain, but we could not make it work here. Starting 13th is kind of hard and we finished fourth because the whole team battled up to fourth. Nothing came from the sky and fell into our hands. I am happy. I am happy with the result, happy with pit stops, no mistakes. I overtook a lot of people. We passed Paul Tracy twice, which is not an easy thing to say. At the very end I was hoping for a podium, I passed Justin Wilson for fourth, but Sebastien was faster, so there were no miracles."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Today was disappointing, because the CDW team worked so hard throughout the weekend. The crew did a great job with all of our pit stops, particularly the first one, where we wound up exiting the pits ahead of Sebastien and A.J. The car was good during the first half of the race, but not quite as good in the second half. This is a very fast and very competitive track, and if things aren't perfect, it can turn into a long day. I'm very happy that Katherine turned out to be all right after her crash, which was a scary moment on an eventful day. As for the race result, we're disappointed, but we'll get back to work as soon as possible to get ready for the race in Australia."
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing --HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was a tough, long race and another new experience for me, leading the parade lap and making sure I got the start right, which thankfully I did for the first one. We had a good car today and were able to run comfortably up the front, with second fastest lap by the end of the first stint, but it was yellow flags that played a part in the outcome for us today. We deserved a podium, but didn't make it. But we did get more points than our rookie of the year rival, so we've narrowed the gap in that chase."
Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was fun today! When you get the opportunity to run up front and you have the chance to make a pass you take it, that's what I did with Sebastien. Then after on the restart with Dan I did the same thing. Later on I fell back and I was kind of where I belonged and I was pulling away from Justin (Wilson). I was looking forward to a good race and then we came in a lap earlier then a couple of guys and it cost us a few positions. I got around Tagliani but then he clipped me and I lost two positions. Finishing seventh is a good end to the weekend."
Andrew Ranger #27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "It was the first time really that I got to drive in the dry. Yesterday, I didn't get a chance to find a good set-up for the dry but luckily the car was very good. I was able to stay with the guys. It's not easy to pass at this track. I tried to pass Katherine Legge but we had some contact in Turn 1 and I broke the front wing. After I came in to get the front wing changed the car was really good and I'm happy to have finished eighth. I just want to say that I'm glad Katherine is okay."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It's been pretty much a frustrating weekend all around, we had a bad qualifying session on Friday and had to start from the back. We never really rebounded from that. During the race we managed to pick up some positions in the pits and on the track, but then we flat spotted a tire and went off on Canada Corner and fell to the back again. We moved up to fourth in the points so at least we got something out of it, no we'll just have to make sure we stay there and hopefully pick up a race win before the season is over."
Mario Dominguez #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Our first race together with Rocketsports did not go as well as we had hoped. I was struggling throughout the race to find the proper balance on the #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle car, but it just never came together and I never got faster. We took a gamble on a pit stop, but that did not work out either. I would like to thank everyone at Rocketsports for making this first race for me with the team a good one. They all worked very hard and did a good job. Hopefully we can have a better race in Australia together and for Pemex, GICSA, Del Valle and my personal sponsors Telmex and Bridgestone."
Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It's unfortunate what happened. We had a strategy that played in our hands today but it didn't work out, but that's the way it goes in racing. But, we're prepared for Australia and we won't be satisfied with anything less than a top-five."
Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am a bit shaken, but I'm okay. All my bits are intact, so that just goes to show how strong Champ cars are. It was a big impact, but hopefully everything will be fine for the next race at Surfers Paradise. I don't think you are really aware of what is going on when you have a situation like I had. All of a sudden the car just sped up and hit the wall. Then I see the ground and there is dirt coming into the cockpit...and I see the fence...honestly you are thinking what is going to happen next. I think I saw parts breaking off all around me. And I think I saw the engine split away because the thing I was thinking about the most was that the car was going to catch fire. Then when the engine went away, I though okay that's good. To be honest I think I had my eyes closed for lots of it, but it is a bit scary. The only problem I am having now is I banged by knee a little bit against the bulkhead. It is just a bit of bruising which won't look to attractive in my dress at the Atlantic's banquet tonight."
Tonis Kasemets #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "My engineer, John Gentilozzi, did a great job for me this weekend on the #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports car. I had a car that was handling very well, so we had a successful weekend. It is just too bad that we had a mechanical failure, which ended our day early and denied us of showing our potential during the race. I would like to thank everyone at Rocketsports and my sponsor Flexovit Abrasives for a good weekend, despite our unfortunate result."
