August 16, 1998 Texaco/Havoline 200 Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin MICHAEL ANDRETTI -6- Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Swift 009.c Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 15th/Tire Failure - "This is very, very, very disappointing. We were right there on the last lap and the tire broke. After that point there was nothing we could do. We had a solid second place run going and if we wouldn't have had problems, it would have been a good day." CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI - 11 - Kmart Swift 009.c Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 3rd - "My car was very slow down the straights. We ran a little bit too much wing in the car. It was very hard for me to pass, but people could pass me very easily. We had a very bad first stop, I went from sixth to 14th which obviously cost us a little bit. But other than that we ran smoothly the rest of the day and I am very happy to be on the podium again. This season has been very hard for me. The car has the performance. It goes quick, but we just have not been able to put the races together. We still have five races in front of us so hopefully I can visit the podium again." ON THE NECK PAIN PRIOR TO THE RACE . . . "I don't know what happened. In practice this morning, after running five laps, suddenly my neck was completely blocked (stiff) and I couldn't turn my head. When I got out of the car this morning I didn't know how I was going to make it. So I took a couple of Advil and got a shot about 40 minutes before the race. Once the parade laps started, I thought I was going to be done after about three laps. Then my neck started getting hot and it was much better after that." ADRIAN FERNANDEZ -40- Tecate/Quaker State/Labatt 98I Reynard Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 5th - ON THE BLACK FLAG FOR PIT SPEED VIOLATION . . . "I got confused with the buttons on the steering wheel. There's too many buttons there. I hit the wrong one as I was exiting pit road. It's a shame because we were having a good race. I tell you we have a good car. Overall I am pretty happy with the result. We moved into third in the points and gained some on second place. We just need to keep finishing races and do the best we can and things will turn out for the Tecate/Quaker State Team." SCOTT PRUETT - 20- Visteon Reynard Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 20th - ON THE ENGINE PROBLEMS THAT PUT HIM OUT OF THE RACE . . . "Ford has been doing a hell of a job with us all season long and it's unfortunate that we did have an engine failure. It does unfortunately happen from time to time and we will just make the most of it and hope they just keep working at it and we will be back at Vancouver." ON THE START OF THE RACE . . . "It's a tough situation. In my case I just got whacked from behind. I have not had a chance to look at it, but it was a pretty good lick. We need to just calm down for the first two or three turns and get the race underway." BOBBY RAHAL - 7 - Miller Lite Reynard 98I Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 11th - "We had a good car today. Maybe a car that could have won. We were just unlucky with the caution flags. We were in position with fuel management, but, when Bryan's yellow came out we had to pit to be in the proper sequence for fuel. The car went loose when I lost the (left) side panel of the rear wing. I guess it (side plate) is there for a reason. I'm sorry my last race here wasn't a good one. I think we had the car to be up front and I was in the right position - the lead. It didn't work out that way." BRYAN HERTA - 8 - Shell Reynard 98I Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 23rd/Contact - ON THE CONTACT WITH ALEX BARRON . . . "I saw him coming. I don't know what caused him to run up on me. I was trying to talk to the crew on the radio and then Alex went up and over me. When he went up on me, Alex's car hit me on the hand. It's okay, it just brushed me." ARND MEIER -77- Hasseroder/J.A.G. Lola Ford Cosworth XD - Finished 10th - BEST CAREER FINISH FOR MEIER - "We had a very good run today. The car was running very, very good and I tried to improve my position but at the end the two drivers in front of me got a little faster at the end. I was a little faster than them in the corners, but not fast enough to catch them."
