Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: Bridgestone engineers returned to Road America with the same specification of primary and alternate Potenza tires that ran here last year. These specifications are unique to the long, high speed circuit. Last year, drivers seemed to prefer the red alternate Potenzas, but this year, the primary black tires seemed to suit the drivers better. Both specs withstood the demands of Champ Car's longest permanent road course and high temperatures today. A chart with each driver's tire use today is below/attached.
From Sebastien Bourdais, #1 McDonald's Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone: "We had a great car, so thanks to the McDonald's crew. Today was the greatest day ever at Road America for us. We had very good consistency from the Bridgestone tires, so I couldn't be happier. It is great to finally win here, and I am so glad my dreams in Europe [the announcement that Bourdais would join Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula 1 next year] are coming true."
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Congratulations to Sebastien Bourdais, both for his long-awaited win at Road America, and for his signing with Toro Rosso for next season. We will miss seeing him in Champ Cars, but we are glad he will be continuing his career on Bridgestone tires! Today's race was interesting from a tire perspective. Most of the drivers and teams seemed to prefer the primary black Bridgestone Potenzas, which is great. We always want drivers to be happy with the tires we provide. However, we did not develop and implement the red alternate tire program for the drivers - we actually had the fans in mind when we decided, along with Champ Car officials, to bring the alternate tires to every race on the 2007 schedule. During the race, most of the passing action on the race track occurred during the first stint, when all of the cars were on the red tires. We saw several clean passes, as well as teams running alternative pit and tire strategies, so I think the 'reds' served their purpose today."
