Juan Pablo Montoya won the 5th round of the FedEx CART Championship and the 3rd race in a row. MNI got an exclusive interview with Montoya to know what he thought of the race.

"The car was very well balanced and I went again the instructions of Chip, that told me to take it easy at the beginning. When I saw the gap at the start I went to get it and I took the lead from Christian. Christian was very fast on the straights, and as he said later, he had less wings than we had, so I could brake later and still make the corner. He gave me enough room to overtake him at the second time, after the pit stop too. The most exciting moment was the overtaking over Dario. He really braked late and I would never thought he would brake that late. I was on inside and made it, but we were inches from touching us and finding the wall.

"I want to think of the 1999 season race per race. I do not consider myself in a position to fight for the championship as we had only 5 of 20 races.

"I liked the Rio track a lot, it was a bit bumpy and a bit rainy, but it was a real exciting track. To be first again is a very good feeling and I really think that we are in a very good shape for the next 3 races" said Montoya.

"Of course I wanted to win here, but I am happy for the 3rd place if you think of the points. I am sorry for the 30.000 people that came here and wanted to see a Brazilian on the highest position. We made a mistake with the setup and I had the same setup than I used in qualifying. I thought this would be the best, but I couldn't brake as late as Dario and Juan and it took me 3 laps to get the tyres warm enough." said Christian Fittipaldi

"Finishing second here is very good for the championship but I think I had really enough seconds this and last season. I want to win. On the other side, if I think about 98, I wasn't that good in the championship at the same time of the year. Hope that the oval season is over soon." said Dario
