Brooklyn, MI (July 22, 1998) -- Andre Ribeiro (Marlboro Penske Mercedes) and Alex Zanardi (Target Reynard Honda) enter this weekend's U.S. 500 Presented by Toyota with impressive laps-led streaks in effect at Michigan Speedway. Ribeiro has led at least one lap in all four of his career appearances in 500-mile events at Michigan, a total of 236 laps in all. He led 68 laps in 1995, 33 in the Inaugural U.S. 500 in '96, 114 en route to victory in the '96 Marlboro 500 and 21 last year. Combined with the 114 laps he led last year at California Speedway, Ribeiro has led at least one lap in each of the past five FedEx Championship Series events contested at 500 miles.
Zanardi, meanwhile, has led at least 74 laps in each of his three career appearances in 500-mile events at Michigan. He led a race-high 134 laps at the Inaugural U.S. 500 in 1996, 74 at the 1996 Marlboro 500 and a race-high 104 en route to victory last year.
