CHAMP CAR DRIVER ANDREW RANGER VISITS MEXICO IN ADVANCE OF TECATE GRAND PRIX OF MONTERREY PRESENTED BY ROSHFRANS
INDIANPOLIS (May 3, 2006) -- Andrew Ranger's (#27 Mi-Jack/Tide Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) last visit to Monterrey, Mexico earned the young Canadian driver a hallowed spot in the Champ Car World Series record books, as his second-place finish at Fundidora Park made him the youngest driver ever to earn a Champ Car podium finish.
Just one year later, Ranger was back in the Mexican city for an advance visit Tuesday as preparations continue for the May 19-21 Tecate Grand Prix of Monterrey Presented by Roshfrans. The Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing driver participated in a press conference with more than 50 media members at the Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma and also visited the Tecate Hall of Fame.
The Canadian also met with race fans, visited the Fundidora Park layout that will host the Champ Cars in three weeks and also appeared on some live TV broadcasts in the city.
"Monterrey is one of my favorite tracks, is very fun to drive, but very slippery, so you have to be careful. The people in Mexico are great, they are big supporters of auto racing and it's a real pleasure to race for them," Ranger said. "This is my second year in the Champ Car World Series, I'm not a rookie anymore, but I still have a lot to learn, I hope to get good results and continue improving as a driver".
After watching Ranger roll to a second-place finish a year ago in just his second-ever Champ Car start, and then watching him handle the demands of the media and fans Tuesday, OCESA General Manager Federico Alaman believes that the 19-year-old driver is poised for greatness.
"Andrew is a great driver and a great person, his visit helped us to promote our race with the media and we hope to see him back on the podium in Monterrey, I think that with time he will become one of the future champions of the Champ Car World Series".
