Luiz Garcia Jr. has two goals for tomorrow's Marlboro 500, to scored points and the win the "Budweiser Hard Charger" award.

The Brazilian qualified for his first race at the California Speedway today with a time of 32.844 seconds (222.363 mph) in his Hollywood-Telegate-Embratel-Reynard/Mercedes-Benz. It will be his second 500 mile race this season and for his career, having taken a career-best finish of 11th at the Michigan 500 in July.

Garcia is also coming off a 12th place finish at Australia, his fifth finish in the points this season. He has six points in the CART FedEx Championship.

In addition, Garcia holds a five-point lead on Adrian Fernandez, 120-115, for the Hard Charger season award. If Garcia scores better than Fernandez, Garcia will win a $10,000 cash award from Budweiser. Garcia won the "Hard Charger" race award at the Michigan 500.

The Marlboro 500 begins at 11:30 a.m.

"I was going flat out all around with just a brief lift going into turns one and two. I think we had just a little drag (during the qualifying run), but we'll have to check that out. We'll see what we can do during the (Sunday) morning warm up. The car has been no problem and is actually pretty decent in traffic. I think if we have some good pitstops like we had at Michigan, we'll come through with some points." - Luiz Garcia Jr., Driver
