PORTLAND, Ore. - Team KOOL Green drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy posted the fourth and ninth quickest times respectively in today's provisional qualifying session for Sunday's G.I.Joe's 200 in Portland. Capitalizing on similarities between the Portland road course and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where Team KOOL Green first tested its new Lola chassis, Franchitti turned a best lap of 59.403 seconds (119.327 mph) on the 11-turn, 1.969-mile Portland International Raceway. Tracy, posted a 59.581 seconds (118.971 mph).

Cristiano da Matta recorded the quickest lap of the day, marking a lap of 59.083 seconds (119.974 mph) in the afternoon qualifying session. Da Matta was followed by Kenny Brack (59.168 seconds, 119.801 mph) and Christian Fittipaldi (59.215 seconds, 119.706 mph).

Tomorrow's CART FedEx Champ Car schedule kicks off with practice at 10:00 a.m. PDT and will be followed by qualifying at 1:45 p.m. Speed Channel will broadcast the qualifying session beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

Paul Tracy - #26 KOOL Honda-Lola-Bridgestone
"The KOOL car was pretty good today. We still have to find some more grip, but overall I'm happy with it. I had a really good lap going until the final corner when I went in a little too hot and the back end of the car stepped out on me. When I corrected, I wasn't able to get off the corner as well and that probably cost me a couple of tenths. Right now there's four guys within one-tenth of a second and I'm on the wrong side of them. Team KOOL Green's just going to make some minor changes tonight. I think we'll have a top-five car tomorrow."

Time: 1:00.437

Provisional Qualifying

Speed: 118.971 mph

John Anderson, Team KOOL Green Race Consultant
"We normally break our fifteen qualifying laps into two segments, however today Paul had spin and we broke the session into three. What that allowed us to do was to send Paul out for two laps so that we could evaluate a change to the Lola. I'm very pleased with the way things went. I'm sure that we'll be able to improve our situation, and expect that tomorrow we should have a good run during qualifying."

Dario Franchitti - #27 KOOL Honda-Lola-Bridgestone
"We're pretty happy right now. The KOOL car is fairly good, we're looking for a few little things, making small changes, where as last week we were looking for anything. We're starting to get used to running the Lola chassis, we obviously don't know everything yet, but we are a lot closer. We're a lot happier this way. We'll work on the car tonight and then go out and give da Matta (Cristiano) and the boys a little harder time tomorrow."

Morning Practice
Position: 9th
Speed: 116.887 mph
Time: 1:00.643 seconds

Provisional Qualifying
Position: 4th
Speed: 119.327 mph
Time: 59.403 seconds

Kyle Moyer, Team KOOL Green Team Manager
"This track is similar to Mid-Ohio and we were happy with the way the Lola performed in testing there. We put that test information together with our knowledge of Portland, and we found that we're very close to where we want to be. We just need to give Dario a little bit of help and then we'll be okay. We certainly won't be making any major changes at this point, it'll be a little bit here and a little bit there, and after that it's really just a matter of getting a good lap in."
