Tagliani to start fifth on the grid in G. I. Joe's 200 at the Portland International Raceway.
On day two of qualifying for G. I. Joe's 200 Alex Tagliani demonstrated his skill and the strength of the Rocketsports team by earning his fifth top-five start in just eight races of the 2003 Champ Car World Series season. Tagliani, who posted a fast lap of 59.061 (120.018 mph, 193.150 km/h), will start in fifth position on tomorrow's grid at the Portland International Raceway.
Tagliani was happy to report that the configuration issues which plagued the team in Laguna Seca were behind them and that the #33 Johnson Controls Lola was performing well. "The car is fast, good enough to be in the top three I think. We have solved whatever problems we had in Laguna Seca and the team has worked hard to put a good car together this weekend," said Tagliani.
Proving once again, that Rocketsports has joined Champ Car ready to compete, Tagliani is positive about the Portland race, despite minor setbacks in qualifying. "There was some rain in the back section of the track, so we were a little conservative, which didn't allow us to get a great lap. Fifth is okay for today and the car felt good, so I'm optimistic about tomorrow's race," concluded Tagliani.
