Junqueira & Bourdais 1-2 in Portland

Bruno Junqueira, No. 6 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "We had a test here two months ago and went really fast. The PacifiCare car was really fast today right out of the truck. I'm very pleased with our performance. I got the best out of the PacifiCare car and the best out of the Bridgestone tires. I don't think there was anything else left in the car today. We just ran one set of tires. I thought that if we put another set on we couldn't go faster than 59.2 anyway so we saved the tires."

* FAST FACTS: Will be his fourth race here. Drove to a fourth place finish after a disappointing start from 11th place in 2003. Started third in 2001, set the fastest race lap and finished second. Started sixth in 2001 but retired in 23rd place after contact...Leads the standings with 77 points over Patrick Carpentier, 75, and Ryan Hunter-Reay, 66.

Sebastien Bourdais, No. 2 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "We had quite a lot of problems today with the McDonald's car. We had a fuel pressure problem then we had a front damper problem and couldn't really take anything away from that session. Given the circumstances, I'm pretty happy to be second. Bruno was very fast and we couldn't have beat him today. Our performance here is a team effort. Newman/Haas has been really solid in Portland and hopefully the race will be no different."

* FAST FACTS: Will be his second race here. Started fourth here last year but his tire pressure dropped early in the race and he was forced to pit and return to the event in 18th place. He charged back into third place only to have the mount on his rear wing fail late in the race. Finished 14th...Has won one pole and race this season - both in Mexico...Is fourth in the point standings with 62.

* NEWMAN/HAAS RACING FACTS: NHR has won SIX races at this track (Da Matta - 2002; Michael Andretti - 1992, 1991, 1990; Mario Andretti - 1986, 1985) and THREE poles (Da Matta - 2002; Nigel Mansell - 1993; Ma. Andretti 1984). They have earned a total of 11 podium finishes (2nd - Mansell 1993, Ma. Andretti 1990; 3rd - Christian Fittipaldi 2001, 2000, 1996).

SPECIAL NOTE: In honor of Father's Day on Sunday, Bruno gave his father Jose a ride in the Champ Car 2-seater at the end of the day. Of the experience, Junqueira's father said "It was the best experience of my life. I had no idea Bruno was going to give me a ride until right before it happened. I was really surprised at the braking ability of the Champ Cars. Now I want to drive it myself and give Bruno the ride." When asked who the better driver was, Jose replied "Bruno is definitely the better open-wheel driver. I am the better sports car driver for sure!"

ON THE SCHEDULE TOMORROW: The practice session will take place from 10:00-11:15 AM PT and final qualifying is set for 1:45-2:45 PM.
