Justin Wilson ...
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "Everything went quite well. We're pleased with the performance. I'm very happy with the way the whole team has been working and improving. We're just getting stronger and stronger and learning all the time. The lap itself was feeling quite good. We kept working away at it. Got a little bit of traffic on a few laps, but managed to put one lap together and it felt good. The option tires just added more grip. We didn't actually touch the setup between the two runs. We just put tires on. It worked very well. We're quite pleased. We feel like we've got some more in reserve for tomorrow if it does stay dry. Other than that, you know, we're quite happy."
Robert Doornbos #14 Minardi Team USACosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "Well, it's fun to drive again on a normal circuit. As for the session, I can agree with Sebastien on two things. I know how it is to run out of fuel. I had it in Long Beach. It's quite embarrassing. About the car, we had upshift problems as well. It's just a disaster. We just can't seem to get rid of it. It takes time away from you. Just try to drive around it and focus on a good lap, and we did it. We managed a good time. Hopefully it rains tomorrow and then we can practice that a little about it for Sunday as well."
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "We don't exactly know what happened. But for some reason the car went from acceptable to pretty bad in the second run and couldn't really improve. It was a little disappointing. I think we got a downshift issue. Again, should I say, with the strategy on the paddle shift in the first run, that really ruined the first run. I thought there was a lot more in the car. Then put the reds on, made a little adjustment, went back out, and the whole thing was gone. There was no grip any more. So I hope the McDonald's team going to find something on the setup because otherwise I have no idea what happened."
Alex Tagliani #8 LXN2 Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "We are happy with the result this afternoon because this morning we didn't have a very good session. We had a couple of things going on and going into the first round of qualifying we were a little bit nervous. But Justin had a good session this morning, so we had the chance to look at what he did and make it work for us and for him as well. I think today we proved the advantage of running with a two-car team. The RSPORTS crew did a really good job. Qualifying in the top four today, especially if there is going to be rain tomorrow, is important for the first standing start of the season. Having both RSPORTS cars in the top four shows how hard the team has been working since the Houston race, so we will keep working a little bit harder, and hopefully we can put two RSPORTS cars on the podium this weekend."
Tristan Gommendy #22The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing car was good on new tires. The first two or three laps on the primary (black) tires were not bad. On the alternate (red) tire the car was quite good and that is when we did our fast lap. We need to continue to work and improve for tomorrow because if it stays dry everyone is going to be faster. We also need to work on the car when we are on old tires especially for the race."
Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream PKV Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "It was a disappointing qualifying session for the Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing team especially after we did so well in morning practice. I thought we had a top-five car after this morning, so obviously I am not happy with being 10th. It is strange. I don't know what went wrong. The Red Bull PKV Racing team is just going to have to go back, look at the data and figure out what happened."
Oriol Servia #7 Indeck Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "it's good to be back in the car, its been a very long break. It actually took me a few laps to get back into the rhythm of things, once we got up to speed we started working on the setup of the car. In this track you have to be very precise and you have to be able to flow a lot of speed through the corners. When your balance isn't right it really hurts the lap time. This Forsythe Team always manages to catch up when they are behind so I have no doubt that tomorrow when we hit the track for practice we'll be much better. Most of the teams have tested here so they are close to where they'll be for the whole weekend, we still have a lot of time left in the car so things could turn out pretty good tomorrow."
Jan Heylen #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "As a driver you always strive to do better but give the limited time in the car, we did a decent job," said Jan Heylen. "We will be looking to improve our time tomorrow at the final qualifying. I hope the weather stays dry for that session and we can expand upon today's results."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "Well today was pretty much a disaster, it's definitely no the way I wanted to get back. In the morning I was just coming out of the pits with cold tires and I made a mistake and hit the wall, so my guys hustled to get the backup car ready but Champ Car rules don't allow to run two cars in the same session so we had to wait till qualifying to get our first laps in. Then during the short pre-qualifying practice session we had electrical problems with our car and didn't get to do any laps either. Once I finally got out for qualifying the car was all over the place. Most of the teams tested here so they have the track and the car figured out, we are still trying to catch up. We are struggling with the balance of the car, we still have a lot of work to do."
Bruno Junqueira Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "There's not much you can do when stuff like this happens," Junqueira said. "I'm not thrilled by our 14th place qualifying effort today. After a six week layoff this isn't the start that we were looking for. But I do know that the #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q team is going to fix the problems and hopefully give me a fast car for tomorrow."
Alex Figge #29 Molecule Labs Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "We had problems this morning that cost us most of the session which is disappointing because I think we were making progress. We still had some instabilities this afternoon but I like the changes we've been making. I guess you could say I am a little disappointed but optimistic."
Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone - "The gear box problem we had this morning really limited my practice time on the track today," said the 26 year old Legge. "I had to spend most of my qualifying session trying to get the car set up to run right, which ended up hurting my qualifying time. Hopefully the rain can hold off tomorrow for qualifying and we can run a faster time."
