Portland, OR (18 June 2005)-- Mi-Jack Conquest Racing driver Andrew Ranger posted the fastest qualifying lap of this year's Champ Car rookie crop to take seventh on the grid for Sunday's G.I. Joe's presents the Champ Car Grand Prix at Portland International Raceway. Teammate Nelson Philippe returned to action in his Wellbox/Mi-Jack Conquest RacingLola after not being able to qualify on Friday, but the lack of track time only allowed him a position on the ninth row.

The rookie Ranger will line up on the fourth row alongside series veteran Jimmy Vasser, and seems to understand what the key to a good race at Portland is.

"I'm very happy with the car now, because this morning the car had a lot of understeer and for qualifying it was better," said Ranger. "I'm starting on 7th position -- inside, I need to be very patient for this long and hard race. We still have to work more on the car for tomorrow. I'm also thrilled that I was the fastest rookie again."

The track was faster in the Friday qualifying session, so for Philippe, the Saturday qualifying session was a big challenge, as he not only had to catch up on what the other drivers had learned during Friday's running, when he was unable to set a time during the Friday session after anaccident in the morning practice, but he also had to do it on a slower track. While Ranger was satisfied with his run on Saturday, Philippe has targeted qualifying as an area to focus on in the future.

"This morning was basically my first day at the track, had some good times, even though I was one day behind everybody else. The car was handling well, but with the option Bridgestones, I could not improve my times. I need to get the qualifying down to better results and work hard to turn our performance around."

The race will be shown live on CBS Sports beginning at 3:30 PM EST on June 19th.
