Tarso Marques, who filled in for Al Unser Jr. at Motegi and Long Beach, will be in a second Marlboro Team Penske Mercedes at the oval in Rio de Janeiro. This will be Marques' third start in a Champ Car and second on an oval. At Motegi he qualified 22nd and finished 14th.

Team owner Roger Penske had this to say about running the two cars and Marques: "As I outlined at the pre-season press conference, our long term plan has been to utilize a young test driver as we continue the development program of the '99 Marlboro Mercedes Penske.

"Tarso did the job for us when he filled in for Al in Japan and Long Beach and we want to give him more seat time and race experience."

The rookie Marques is looking forward to his opportunity to race again with the Penske team. "I am very happy to have another opportunity to race for Marlboro Team Penske. For sure it will be extra special to race in my home country of Brazil. I haven't raced there since 1996 in Formula One.

"I have never been to the track in Rio so once again everything will be new for me, but I hope I can learn the circuit quickly and do my best to help the team.

"I enjoyed racing in Japan and look forward to starting my second oval race; at least now I have a better feel for oval racing, especially the restarts and working the traffic."

Marques will definitely have his work cut out for him as Team Penske has had a difficult time this season. His finish at Motegi was the only finish for the team in this young season.
