JACKSON, MI - - August 12, 2000 - - The Patrick Racing Hospitality Staff was awarded first place for their efforts at the Fourth Annual "Taste of CART" Progressive Dinner, sponsored by Tones Spices, last night at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Led by Patrick Racing Administrative Director, Bev Sharp, Director of Hospitality, Tony Mathey and Head Chief, Ted Reader, the hospitality staff, which includes David Mathey, Chris Hoard and Chris Arczewski, earned the $1000 first place prize and the perpetual trophy for their "Treasures from the Sea" presentation. The Patrick Racing Hospitality Trailer was decorated in an imaginative Hawaiian theme that included Tiki torches, fishnets, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts, leis and featured Chris Hoard dressed as a hula dancer serving the "Patrick Racing Fruit Punch" from a Tiki bar. The menu included award winner recipes by internationally known chef and author Ted Reader, and included Cedar Planked Crab Crusted Atlantic Salmon, Grilled Sugar Cane Skewered Jumbo Shrimp with Horseradish Orange Dipping Sauce and BBQ'd Oysters with Bacon Mango BBQ Sauce.

"We really enjoyed putting this evening together, " said Tony Mathey. "It was a lot of fun coming up with the ideas and decorating the trailer. We are glad everybody had a good time and are looking forward to defending our title next year. I just don't know what we are going to do to top this year, but we have a year to figure it out."

The cash prize will be donated to the Alphabet Junction Child Care Center. The Center provides childcare services for children ages newborn through pre-teen and is available to all CART participants. For more information about the Alphabet Junction Child Care Center, contact Teresa Howatt at 517-278-1356.

"If all the other teams could have as much fun participating in this wonderful event as we do, I think it would become an even more spectacular evening than it already is," said Sharp. "We are just happy to have been able to participate and make a donation to such a good cause as the Alphabet Junction Child Care center."

The "Taste of CART" progressive dinner is one of the highlights of the FedEx Championship Series summer racing season. Open to fans and teams it is presented by CARA Charities which serves the CART community through charitable work throughout the motor sports community and, this year, was sponsored by Tones Spices. "Taste of CART" features CART hospitality staffs and chefs in competition for a trophy and cash prize. Guests stroll among the hospitality trailers sampling each team's specialties and voting for their favorite.

"I really enjoy cooking and there is nothing better than to prepare some of my favorite recipes for a function that benefits such a fine organization as CARA Charities. The fact that we won and were able to donate the money to the Alphabet Junction Child Care Center, just made last night even more special. I think everybody had a good time. I know I did," said Reader.

Presentation of the "Taste of CART" Progressive Dinner trophy will take place during the pre-race ceremonies of the Miller Lite 200 on Sunday, August 13.
