CHAMPCAR/CART: Patrick Racing Rockingham Thursday notes

CORBY, ENGLAND - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2001 -- Round #17 of the 2001 FedEx Championship Series - There was only a slight drizzle late in the afternoon, but track conditions were, never the less, unsuitable for practice at full speed today at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, England.

Because of water seepage through the track, as of result of several days of rain, CART officials decided that teams could only run two installation check stints of five laps each at reduced speed.

Visteon/Patrick Racing drivers Townsend Bell, behind the wheel of the #19 Visteon/Patrick Racing Toyota Reynard and Roberto Moreno, piloting the #20 Visteon/Patrick Racing Toyota Reynard, ran both segments turning a total of ten laps each. Jimmy Vasser, driving the #40 Visteon/Patrick Racing Toyota Reynard, went out for just the first five-lap run.

All three cars, which are running with TotalFinaElf UK Limited associate sponsorship here at Rockingham, checked out okay. In addition, Bell, who is competing in just his second champ car event, took the opportunity to get in some pit stop practice.

Because both practice sessions today were cancelled tomorrow's schedule, weather and track conditions permitting, is as follows:

9:30 - 11:15 AM Champ Car Practice (all cars)

1:30 - 3:30 PM Champ Car Practice (all cars)

There will not be a single-car qualifying session. Starting positions will be determined using the officially recorded practice times credited to each driver during the event practice sessions.
