JACKSON, Mich.--Visteon/Patrick Racing completed its sixth test since the end of the 2001 season, first in-season test and first on an oval, March 26-27, on the Homestead Speedway oval in Homestead, Florida.
Rookie Townsend Bell, who pilots the #20 Visteon/Patrick Racing Toyota Bridgestone, ran approximately 300 miles during the two days, which were devoted to working on setups for the upcoming oval contest at Motegi, Japan.
^ÓThe Visteon/Patrick Racing Team had a very good test and got a lot of work done on the Homestead oval,^Ô Bell said. ^ÓWe weren't the fastest car out there, but we weren't the slowest either. The key for us was to work on our oval setup. This was our first test on an oval this year. In addition, we just got some new oval parts from Reynard, so this test gave us an opportunity to collect a lot of valuable data. The car felt good. It is very similar to the basic setup I ran last year in Europe. Overall, it was a good test and we have a good idea for the setup heading into the first oval race in Japan,^Ô Bell noted.
Patrick Racing General Manager Jim McGee said, ^ÓThe Visteon/Patrick Racing team had a very productive test on the Homestead oval. This was our first oval test so we spent most of our time working with the aerodynamic package and on setups for Motegi. Of course, the weather conditions here are considerably warmer than what they will be in Motegi, but we were able to get quite a bit of work done. We tried a variety of things, made a lot of progress and are looking good heading into the first oval race of the season.^Ô
