HILLIARD, Ohio (February 7) – Team Chairman Jerry Forsythe has announced that global electronics giant Panasonic has become the primary sponsor of Forsythe Championship Racing and newly-signed driver Bryan Herta beginning with the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series.
Herta, who enters his seventh year of Champ Car competition, will pilot the #77 Panasonic Honda/Swift on Firestone tires.
"Not only is Panasonic a household name, it has a long history within the racing community," said Forsythe. "We are extremely pleased to represent Panasonic on the race track. Our program has continued to evolve over the past few months, and the addition of Panasonic alongside our partnership with Swift Engineering further strengthens our foundation."
Panasonic, which first became involved in CART in 1990, is one of the world's leaders in electronic products for consumer, business and industrial use. Panasonic is the most recognizable brand of the Matsushita Electric companies worldwide. In North America, Matsushita Electric Corporation of America and its affiliates employ over 23,000 people and operate 24 manufacturing sites. Globally, Matsushita has operations in 46 countries.
“We have put together a first-class team with Forsythe Championship Racing and talented driver Bryan Herta, the high-performance engine manufacturer Honda and now a great sponsor -- Panasonic," said Hiro Matsushita, CEO of Swift Engineering Inc. "Based on our three years of efforts and advanced technology, we are confident that Swift can perform at the very highest level this season, and our new partnerships will help achieve our goals."
“The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind for me between joining the Forsythe team and now having the opportunity to work with Panasonic," said Herta. "I'm excited and really looking forward to the start of the season."
As the factory Swift team, Forsythe Championship Racing has exclusive use of the new Swift 011.c chassis. Herta will make his first public appearance in the Panasonic Honda/Swift at CART's fifth-annual Spring Training – an open test session to be held February 9 and 10 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida.
