PacWest is back on a short oval in two weeks when they run in the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix on April 23. Sullivan is a former winner at the one mile oval (1988) while Nazareth was the site of Gugelmin's first oval race. Not only was Nazareth Gugelmin's first oval race but race day itself was one of his first times on an oval track.

"I went into the race weekend having tested a '92 car a few times there, but on race weekend we changed to a '93 chassis," Gugelmin recalled. "If you remember that year, practice and qualifying on both days was rained out so we lined up on the grid by PPG points, of which I had none, so my first few laps of the race amounted to the first time I had ever driven a '93 car on an oval. And guess what...the car was loose! So I was forced to learn about oval racing pretty quickly at one of the most difficult oval tracks in the series."

Similarly, Sullivan maintains the course is difficult on both driver and car.

"Nazareth is really unique because, although it's an oval, the sharp turns are similar to those on a road course, but you're going into them at a much higher rate of speed. So, the brakes get a workout and the drivers don't get much of a chance to rest either."

The race will be broadcast live on CBS-TV at 1:00 p.m. EDT
