MAURICIO GUGELMIN - # 17 NEXTEL PACWEST TOYOTA
"This morning we battled too much downforce on the car, but we got that sorted out during the break," said Gugelmin. "My car was handling quite well this afternoon although I need to find some more straight-line speed for qualifying. I didn't really get a good solid run because of the traffic and yellow flags, but we'll get things worked out. I like driving on this circuit and I'm confident we will be ready to go on Saturday."
SCOTT DIXON - # 18 POWERWARE PANASONIC PACWEST TOYOTA
"We ran on full tanks for most of the afternoon to prepare for race conditions,” said Dixon. “My crew and I went through several different configurations on the car and I'm pleased with our set-up. Unfortunately, we had a gearbox problem at the end of the day, but overall I think we learned a lot about the car. I would have liked to run better on my first day in Japan, but the weekend is still young. We just need to look at ways to find some more speed overnight, and we'll be all set."
