(September 30, 1998) -- Bruce McCaw's PacWest CART team has re-signed both drivers Mauricio Gugelmin and Mark Blundell for a fourth year together as teammates in 1999. Gugelmin joined PacWest in 1995 with Blundell coming on board the following year. They will continue to drive Reynard-Mercedes-Benz' on Firestone tires next year with Hollywood sponsoring Gugelmin's car and Motorola backing Blundell.

"We intend to challenge for the FedEx Championship Series title in 1999," McCaw commented, "and entering the new year with continuity on all fronts will provide us with an excellent head start. I am very confident that extending our commitment with Mauricio, Mark, and our commercial and technical partners will produce more of the spectacular results we achieved together in 1997."

This year has been a disappointment for PacWest after winning four races in '97, three with Blundell and one with Gugelmin. This year however, the team has struggled in many races with Gugelmin's fourth at Mid-Ohio in August the team's best 1998 result to date. "I'm looking forward to the 1999 season with a team that has all the ingredients for success," Blundell commented. "We all have very high expectations of getting things off to a good start when our first '99 Reynard chassis arrives in early November." Said teammate Gugelmin: "I have total belief in the PacWest team and Bruce's ability to put together and guide a great group of people. I'm proud to be part of it and I'm looking forward to running at the front."
