Both qualifying sessions saw red flags towards the end of each sesssion, preventing both Maurico Gugelmin and Scott Dixon to improve their times. Gugelmin and Dixon will start on the grid 12th and 18th, respectively. The Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET and will be aired live on ABC.

MAURICIO GUGELMIN - # 17 NEXTEL PACWEST TOYOTA

Starting Position: 12th Time: 1:14:828s Speed: 112.867mph

"The car was pretty good and it has been all weekend," said Gugelmin. "I'm a little disappointed because of the red flag towards the end of the session. It didn't leave me much time to improve - I should have been right up there with Carpentier. The same thing (red flag) happened with the fast group, which helped my starting position. I'm very happy with the car and feel very confident going into the race tomorrow."

SCOTT DIXON - # 18 POWERWARE PANASONIC PACWEST TOYOTA

Starting Position: 18th Time: 1:15:126s Speed: 112.419mph

"Obviously, I'm very disappointed," said Dixon. "The red flag at the end of the session did not work in my favor because I really needed the time to improve my position. There was a lot of traffic out there with a couple offs, which really held me up. The car was good and we'll work on some things tonight in preparation for the race tomorrow. I've come from behind before and I'm confident I can do it again. I definitely have my work cut out for me tomorrow and it will be very important for me to gain positions at the start."
