Junqueira Completed 2nd Day at Sebring
SEBRING, Fla. (March 26, 2004) - PacifiCare driver Bruno Junqueira ran 280 miles today at the 1.65-mile road course at Sebring International Raceway and was pleased with the progress made to the race setup on his Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone race car. More than eight cars were on track today as drivers were testing in preparation for the 2004 season-opening round of the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series race, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 18.
Under sunny and warm conditions Junqueira's best lap time for the day was a 50.7 although he felt the car was capable of a quicker time. Including the 180 miles he ran on Wednesday, Junqueira's total for the two days of testing was 460 miles.
"We concentrated on long runs and were happy with the car at the end of the test," said Junqueira. "Unfortunately when we put on a new set of tires around 2:30 p.m., there was too much traffic or I think we could have gotten closer to a 50.3 or 50.4. We wanted to save our tires so we just made long runs. When I was leaving the track all of the guys were putting on new tires and going out so I'll be interested to see what the times were at the end of the day."
The team hopes to test one more time prior to the season-opening race on April 18 in Long Beach, Calif.
