OAKBROOK, Ill. (July 2, 2003) --- Leading global food service retailer McDonald's® and four-time championship-winning team Newman/Haas Racing today announced an alliance for select 2003 Champ Car World Series events.

McDonald's will join Eli Lilly & Company as the co-primary sponsor of the No. 2 car driven by rookie sensation Sebastien Bourdais as an extension of their launch of the Premium Salads that feature Newman's Own® Salad Dressing at races in Cleveland on July 5, Denver on August 31 and Miami on September 28.

"It's a perfect blend of methanol, salad and olive oil -- and that's a winning combination," said Paul Newman, who with racing entrepreneur Carl A. Haas, co-own Newman/Haas Racing, the winningest active team in the CART-sanctioned Champ Car World Series which will hold 19 events in six countries this season.

In March of this year, Paul Newman, President and Founder of Newman's Own, Inc., philanthropist and actor, and McDonald's announced an exclusive alliance to feature Newman's Own all-natural salad dressings served with McDonald's new Premium Salads in restaurants nationwide. The McDonald's Newman/Haas sponsorship is an extension of McDonald's relationship with Paul Newman and Newman's Own, and the launch of McDonald's new Premium Salads with Newman's Own dressing that began April 21 nationwide. The Newman/Haas race car will feature graphics of McDonald's Golden Arches® and the Premium Salads logo.

"McDonald's is proud of our association with Newman's Own and our Premium Salads," said John Lewicki, Director, Alliances, McDonald's USA. "This gives McDonald's a great way to build on our alliance with Newman's Own and directly with Paul Newman."

McDonald's is the world's leading foodservice retailer, with more than 30,000 restaurants serving nearly 46 million people in more than 100 countries each day. Approximately 80 percent of McDonald's U.S. restaurants are owned and operated by independent local businessmen and women.

Newman's Own is an all-natural line of food products created by Paul Newman. Paul Newman donates all his profits, after taxes, from the sale of these products for educational and charitable purposes. Paul Newman has donated over $125 million to thousands of charities since 1982.

Newman/Haas Racing, owned by actor/race car driver Paul Newman and racing entrepreneur Carl A. Haas, is the most successful team competing in the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford racing series sanctioned by Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). The team is in the midst of their 21st season in CART in 2003 and will attempt to score their first back-to-back CART title as well as their fifth overall after winning 70 races and 73 pole positions. Current drivers Bruno Junqueira and Sebastien Bourdais, were preceded at the team by Mario and Michael Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Paul Tracy, Christian Fittipaldi and reigning 2002 CART Champion Cristiano da Matta.
