Mayer Joins CART As Senior VP Of Racing Operations

Troy, MI (December 1, 1998) - Timothy A. Mayer has been named Senior Vice President of Racing Operations for Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc., effective today.

Mayer, who has an extensive background in auto racing administration and operations, joins the open wheel sanctioning organization immediately. His responsibilities include oversight of the competition, logistics and registration departments as well as the management of CART's relationship with its event promoters on all competition issues. He reports directly to CART Chairman and CEO Andrew Craig.

"Tim's knowledge of open wheel racing and his capabilities as an effective administrator make him a natural and welcome addition to our staff," said Craig. "CART's racing activities have grown dramatically during 1998, particularly as a result of the acquisition of the PPG Dayton Indy Lights Championship and the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship. We are now a much bigger company and need to ensure that our racing organization keeps pace with our growth."

Most recently, Mayer served as president of G3 Communications, a Miami-based motorsports consulting firm whose clients included both the Rio 400 and the Australian Champ Car events as well as the SBT Television network in Brazil. Prior to that, Mayer worked for Fittipaldi USA as special projects manager.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to help lead CART's racing business into the 21st century," said Mayer. "Andrew (Craig) has created a vision for open wheel racing - serving both the North American and worldwide audience - that is unique and exciting. I am very enthused about becoming a member of the CART team."

Mayer attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and received his bachelor's degree in Management and History. His father, Edward (Teddy) has a distinguished motorsports background in Champ Car, Formula One and sports car racing.
