Fittipaldi Quickest in Pre-race Warm-up (April 27, 1998) -- Christian Fittipaldi paced the warm-up session Monday as the field of 26 Champ Cars prepared for Round 4 of the FedEx Championship Series the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presented by Toyota at Nazareth Speedway. Following yesterday's rainy and windy weather, Monday dawned cool but sunny. Temperatures at race time (10 a.m. ET) are expected to be in the upper 40s. Today's race will be broadcast at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN in the US but live to many of the more than 180 countries that carry CART racing throughout the world. Fittipaldi, in his Kmart Swift Ford, lapped the Pennsylvania oval at 175.140 miles per hour (19.445 seconds). He will start the race in sixth position. Following the Brazilian in the warm-up was Canada's Greg Moore, who qualified second. He ran at 175.059 mph in the warm-up in his Players/Indeck Reyanrd Mercedes. Third best was Robby Gordon in the Panasonic Duskin Reynard Toyota. In his first race of the season, he ran 174.548 mph Monday morning. Fourth-fastest was Mauricio Gugelmin at 174.396 mph and fifth was JJ Lehto at 173.879 mph. Polesitter Patrick Carpentier was sixth with a speed of 173.684 miles per hour. The top 23 cars in the morning practice session were within one second of Fittipaldi's top time.
