Elkhart Lake, Wis., Aug. 3, 2000 -- Walker Racing rookie driver Shinji Nakano had a successful two-day test at Road America on Aug. 1 - 2. The test was in preparation for the Motorola 220 on Aug. 18 - 20 at Elkhart Lake, Wis. The 4.048-mile permanent road course is a favorite among many of the CART drivers. It's long and fast with many different types of corners, elevation changes, and long straights on which to pass, the track has something for everybody. The former Formula 1 racer found that this racecourse suits him quite well. "The track was very nice, it's a good track," said Shinji. "We ran a lot of laps and it was a good test for our team. The track is similar to the track at Spa (Belgium) with the uphill turns and long straights. This is a fun track. It's my favorite CART track so far, and I have good hopes for the race to come. Shinji completed a total of 450 miles during the test, with a best lap of 1:43.29. "We got some good work done at the test," said Team Manage Rob Edwards. "We learned some mechanical things about the car that will make a difference at the race in Mid-Ohio and when we go back to Elkhart Lake in August." Round 13 of the CART FedEx Championship Series will be contested on Aug. 11-13 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The race will be broadcast Sunday, Aug. 13 on a tape-delayed basis at 4 p.m. ET on ABC. Walker Racing's corporate sponsor partners are avex, Alpine, Mitsuba, SpeedWRX.com, Dell Computer Corporation, NGK, St. Elmo Steakhouse, Honda, Reynard and Firestone.
