Memories at Motegi: The 2001 Firestone Firehawk 500 will mark Herta's third visit to the state-of-the-art facility. Herta has never qualified out of the top-ten at the majestic 1.549 - mile oval. Herta started ninth at the inaugural Champ Car event at Twin Ring Motegi in 1998 and bettered his qualifying result in 1999 by starting eighth.
One Lap for Kids: Herta will make a visit to the Red Cross Hospital in Motegi, where on behalf of elf Race Fuels, a "Kid Racer Car" donation will be made. Herta's visit will be the first-ever hospital visit by a driver at the Red-Cross hospital.
Top-Ten Oval Qualifier: Herta and his crew have what it takes to start in the top ten on the ovals. The Zakspeed/Forsythe crew earned back-to-back top ten qualifying efforts at Texas (fourth) and Nazareth (seventh). Look for another top-ten performance from the rookie team this Friday at Motegi.
Herta on Motegi: "I really like visiting Japan. I spent a day in Tokyo, and I'll have a day at the track, so I should be pretty acclimated by the time we run on Thursday. This is a terrific facility; I always enjoy this place. I am looking forward to putting Nazareth behind us, and am focusing on collecting some points. We need to run as well during the race as we have been qualifying. Our goal this weekend is to continue qualifying well, and finish the race in a solid points paying position."
