Junqueira, Brack lead CART first-day practices at Motegi.

- Kenny Brack led the morning practice session, while Target Chip Ganassi teammate Bruno Junqueira registered the fastest overall time of the day in topping the charts during the afternoon session in preparation for Saturday's Bridgestone Potenza 500 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan.

- In addition to his fastest time during the afternoon, Junqueira also placed third overall during the morning session.

- Brack is the defending race champion and winner of four CART oval events (Motegi, Milwaukee, Chicago and Germany) last season.

- In addition to the two Target Toyota drivers, series points leader Cristiano da Matta placed fourth overall for the day in his Havoline Toyota. Da Matta joined Bruno Junqueira as two of the three drivers to place in the top five in each of the day's sessions.

- Rookie Townsend Bell had a strong first-day showing, finishing in the top 10 in both sessions.

- Toyota drivers enter this weekend's race having won seven of the last nine oval races including the most recent CART oval in last year's season finale at Fontana (Cristiano da Matta).

Qualifying for Saturday's Bridgestone Potenza 500 is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 a.m. EDT.
