Second practice session for the Bridgestone Potenza 500.

Motegi, Japan, April 25, 2002 - Team Player's drivers Patrick Carpentier and Alex Tagliani completed their second practice session today for the Bridgestone Potenza 500, round 3 of the CART FedEx Series to be held Saturday in Motegi Japan.

Carpentier finished second overall. He posted his best lap time during the second session driving around the 2.491-kilometre (1.548-mile) Twin Ring oval track in 26.015 seconds. He averaged 344.736 km/h. "Everything went well at the end of the session but I lost a lot of time in the pits when Team Player's had to change gear ratios and some part of the undertray. Now, we are very confident for tomorrow."

Using his back up car, his teammate Tagliani finished sixth overall, also posting his fastest lap time of 26.179 seconds (342.576 km/h) in the second practice session. "We had turbo boost problems in the first session and we thought it was fixed. But somehow, it was still there in the second session. We ran only 23 laps. Imagine how we would have fare had we run 60 laps like some of the other guys."

Fastest driver of the day was Bruno Junqueira with a lap time of 25.983 seconds (345.161 km/h). The Brazilian driver edged Carpentier by a mere 32 hundredths of a second. Third quickest was Dario Franchitti of Scotland, followed by Brazilians Cristiano da Matta and Tony Kanaan and then Tagliani.

Drivers will return on track Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. local time (8:30 p.m. Eastern Time) for the third and final practice session.
