MOTEGI, Japan -- Luiz Garcia Jr., driving for the Project Racing Group (P.R.G.), qualified for his second Firestone Firehawk 500 today.

Garcia, who turned 29 eight days ago, drove his Hollywood-Embratel-Tang-Reynard/Mercedes-Benz to a quick time of 27.684 seconds (201.430 m.p.h.) around the 1.549-mile oval.

The Brazilian hopes to add to his tally of two FedEx CART Championship points. He has scored points in two straight races (Long Beach and Brazil). Should Garcia score in the points again, it will be the first time in his CART career he has scored points in three straight races.

Garcia's blue Hollywood car has the nickname of Soryu, which means Blue Dragon in Japanese. Last year while driving for Payton-Coyne Racing, Garcia finished 19th.

Luiz Garcia Jr:s "It took awhile to get heat into the tires for the first few laps. We know we have a car that is capable of going faster, so our motivation is still up for the race. It would have been nice to go faster in qualifying, but we have made quite a bit of progress. I was running at a decent pace during the practice sessions."

"I'm confident we'll have a great race tomorrow and keep up the momentum of scoring points. I had a great time here last season and I look forward to tomorrow. We'll be all right." -- Luiz Garcia Jr., Driver
