CHAMPCAR/CART: Montreal: Walker Racing race report

Rodolfo Lavin (R), #5 Corona Competition Team Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

Team manager Rob Edwards put together a strong pit strategy for Lavin's 18th place starting effort; unfortunately an engine stall on the second pit stop, Lap 29, put Lavin at the back of the pack. Lavin brought his #5 Corona onto pit lane under yellow on Lap 9, a strategy which had him up to tenth when he made his second stop on Lap 29. As attrition set in, Lavin battled an ill-braking car to finish 15th.

"The Corona car was pretty good at the start of the race, but towards the end the car wasn't braking well. I kept locking the rears up, the brake petal was very soft, and the car kept going straight in the chicanes. It was difficult to keep a consistent pace. We had a good pit stop strategy, but the stall on the second stop really hurt us. I'm not sure what happened. The engine just cut out and then we lost a bit of time to restart the engine."

Darren Manning, (R), #15 RAC Walker Racing Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

Manning started the race morning off strong posting the two fastest laps of the warm-up session in his #15 RAC Walker Racing Champ Car. The rookie ran in the top-ten throughout most of the 75-lap race en route to his seventh consecutive top-ten finish dating back to the G.I. Joe's 200 in Portland (22 June).

"The RAC Walker Racing car was good in the corners, but our straight-line speed was down considerably during the race. We're not sure why we're having this problem. At least we were able to keep up our top-ten streak and collect a few more points for the championship."

Fast Facts: Marks his 12th top-ten finish this season and his seventh consecutive top-ten finish since Portland (22 June), Has finished in the top-ten at every road course event this season with the exception of Laguna Seca where an engine failure ended his day on Lap 12, Has 13 top-ten finishes to his credit in just 15 starts, Currently ranked ninth in the championship points standings with 76 points after picking up three points for today's tenth place finish, Ranked second in the Rookie of the Year standings.
