For the second consecutive race, and for only the second time in the team's Champ Car history, RuSPORT will only field one car in a Champ Car World Series event. Justin Wilson (#9 CDW / RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) will be the lone RuSPORT entrant in the 2006 Champ Car Grand Prix de Montreal. Cristiano da Matta (#10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) continues to recover from a serious head injury he suffered during the Champ Car Open Test at Road America on August 3.
Wilson currently sits in third place in the Champ Car World Series Driver's Championship, just 35 points behind the leader, Sebastien Bourdais. Wilson continues to lead the standings for the Bridgestone Passion for Excellence Award, given to the driver with the fastest cumulative lap time for the entire Champ Car season.
Da Matta holds the Fastest Lap record at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, 1:18.959, which he set during his championship-winning season in 2002.
In 2005, the Bridgestone Pole Award was won in Montreal by Bourdais, with a time of 1:20.396. Wilson captured third place in the 2005 Grand Prix de Montreal, which was won by Oriol Servia. The 2005 result was an improvement for Wilson over his performance in 2004, when he took fourth place as a member of Mi-Jack Conquest Racing.
Wilson will look to rebound after a disappointing eighth-place finish in Denver, earlier this month.
