Justin Wilson qualifies in fourth place at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, Aug. 25, 2006 -- Justin Wilson (#9 CDW / RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) took fourth place in provisional qualifying for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Montreal, recording a best lap time of 1:22.085. Wilson and his CDW / RuSPORT team will work to improve their starting position in final qualifying tomorrow at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
"It hasn't been too bad of a day," said Wilson. "We had a few problems this morning, so we didn't do many laps in the morning practice session. But the car seemed pretty quick, and we were quick again in qualifying. We just need to find a bit more speed to get onto the front row. Hopefully, we can get there tomorrow. We have a lot of guests from CDW Canada here with us this weekend, so we'll be working hard to put in a good result."
For the second consecutive Champ Car race weekend, RuSPORT is competing in Montreal without the No. 10 RuSPORT Champ Car, as Cristiano da Matta continues to recover from a serious head injury he suffered in a collision with a deer during a test session at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. on Aug. 3.
"For everyone at RuSPORT, our hearts are with Cristiano and his family, this weekend, as they were in Denver," said RuSPORT president Jeremy Dale. "It's great news that he continues to make progress in his recovery, and we're all thinking of him. As for Justin and the No. 9 car crew, it was certainly a busy and eventful day. But, they kept their heads down all day, everyone worked extremely hard, and Justin drove the wheels off the car. I think we've got a good, solid car, and something competitive to work from, so we look forward to final qualifying on Saturday, and making some improvements to the car so we can get up to the front and fight for a pole position."
