01.18.01 - 12:13pmPT - Just confirmed moments ago here at the California Speedway was the Molson sponsored race on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The race will be an August date.

Molson Indy in Toronto has been renewed for another five years, and the fate of the Molson Indy Vancouver is still up in the air.

MolStar Sports and Entertainment supremo, Bob Singleton, said the dialogue pertaining to the Vancouver venue "is on-going" and while the parties involved would like to settle the issue as soon as possible, it has to be finalized before the running of this year's edition of the Molson Indy Vancouver. Part of the time delay is due to CART President and CEO Joseph Heitzler's limited time at his new job, today is his 17th day working for CART. He said that he needs to be comfortable with all the issues involved and he still needs to gain all the knowledge required to make the appropriate decisions.

Third party offers to run the Montreal venue were quelled when Molsons, the rights holders of CART racing in Canada simply met the other offer, and Singleton implied that if all criteria was met for extending the Vancouver race, third party offers would not be an issue.

Looking for an alternate location in suburban Vancouver does not meet with the mandate of Molson's, they will only entertain an urban event in any city in Canada.

The Montreal deal has been in place for five to six months.
