NELSON PHILIPPE, #4 CTE RACING HVM/ LOLA/FORD-COSWORTH
Champ Car's Rising Star: 2006 has been a break-out season for Champ Car's rising star, Nelson Philippe. Sitting fourth in the championship with just four races to go, Philippe has set a new personal standard for his performances in the Champ Car World Series. He earned his fourth top five finish of the season two weeks ago in Denver and he has finished in the top ten in six of the ten races Champ Car races completed his season. Philippe has started inside the top ten in seven, of the ten 2006 races.
The French Connection: It may not be home, but it is about as close as Philippe can get to the familiarity of France without crossing the pond. A native of Valence, France, Philippe feels right at home speaking his native language and enjoying the fine French cuisine in Montreal, Quebec.
Montreal Rewind: Philippe returns to Montreal with unfinished business and a burning desire to finish up front after frustrations in, his two previous Grands Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Philippe started the 2005 Champ Car Grand Prix in Montreal from the 10th position, he passed Mario Dominguez for sixth position on the final restart with 15 laps to go, but the Mexican punted Philppe in the second turn knocking him off course. Philippe nursed his damaged Lola to the finish line in 15th position. In his rookie start in 2004 Philippe qualified 13th but did not finish the event, a loose nut caused his front wheel to fall off following his first pitstop, he was scored in the 17th position.
Fourth in the Championship: A challenger week in and week out, Philippe's consistency is paying off, with the Frenchman sitting fourth in the series championship, the highest ranking of his career. While the battle is tight, Philippe leads a strong pack of veterans who are ranked fifth through tenth.
Nelson Philippe on Montreal: "I am very happy to go back to Montreal as I am going to be able to speak French everywhere I go! The track is amazing; it is a circuit I have always enjoyed driving. I am planning to continue our string of top-five finishes this weekend as it will be very important for the points battle. We are close to the podium every race and we really feel like this weekend will be successful for us. The team has a great car here so we should be on pace as soon as we roll out on Friday."
