NELSON PHILIPPE 6th AND DAN CLARK 11th AFTER FIRST QUALIFYING SESSION
CTE Racing HVM drivers are both looking at improving their time after a somewhat frustrating first qualifying session on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The afternoon started very well for driver Nelson Philippe. He posted the fastest time for the most part of the first half of the session but when the team made the switch to the red tires, the driver was plagued with heavy traffic on the narrow race course and could not take full advantage of the softer compound. His best time of the day was a 1:22:513 which he estab-lished on his 5th lap.
For Dan Clarke, this is his first time around the Montreal road course and the team wanted to make sure he got acquainted with the track in order to set up for the weekend ahead. This paid off has he posted his fastest time of 1:22:800 on his 11th lap, a mere 0.004 of a second off tenth place.
NELSON PHILIPPE, #4 CTE RACING HVM/ LOLA/FORD-COSWORTH
"The car felt good but, unfortunately, I got blocked by Katherine Legge. We had a car to be in third position but we just could not get a clean lap. I hope the weather stays good for tomorrow so we can start the race where we belong.
The team did an awesome job as always and the car was great."
DAN CLARKE, #14 CTE Racing HVM/ Lola/Ford-Cosworth
"We've started slowly, taking our time to let me learn the track and get a feel for the best places to push. I always feel a bit frustrated at this stage, as there's so much to do and so little time. We certainly need to work on the setup of the car and I know there's lots of opportunity to improve over the course of the weekend. The track is a bit deceiving. The F1 cars look so much faster than us, particularly through the chicanes, and I feel that we're a bit slower and need to be faster to catch up with them, but it's just the difference between the two series! We're not so far off where we need to be and we can definitely be well within the top ten tomorrow. We'll get there.
VINCE KREMER, CTE Racing HVM Team manager
"We did not get the best out of the cars due to traffic. We could have done better but could not get a clean lap. Nelson did very well on the black Bridgestone tires in the beginning of the session but we could not take advantage of the red set."
