CHAMPCAR/CART: Montreal: American Spirit TJ Saturday report

JIMMY VASSER, #12 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

Final Qualifying: 7th 1.19.882 122.085 mph

Vasser on Qualifying: "The first stint I had great track positioning and that is when we got our best time in. I battled the traffic in the second stint and that set of tires wasn't as good as the first set, so I didn't improve my time in that run. I am pleased though, I think we've got a decent set-up on the car."

RYAN HUNTER-REAY, #31 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

Final Qualifying (31x):14th 1:20.639 120.939 mph

*Hunter-Reay made contact during Saturday practice. The 31 (primary) car was deemed unrepairable, the 31x car was presented for final qualifying, disqualifying the time and speed of the 31 (primary) qualification

Hunter-Reay on Qualifying: "We have quite a bit of work to do on the balance of the car. The set-up is going to take some work on the back-up car to get it broken in. On old tires, the curbs bite you quick and it happened to me this morning. Unfortunately we lost the Penske wing in the contact that makes a difference around places like this as well. I think we have a decent baseline, we just need to get it adjusted to this car."

Stefan Johansson, Team Owner: "It was a pretty good session really. Jimmy is just two tenths off of the pole. We are not that happy with our track position, but we are happy with our speed."
