SAN FRANCISCO, CA - - February 8, 2001 - - Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix officials today released the CART "Schedule of Events" for Round #1 of the 2001 FedEx Championship Series, March 9-11, at the newly constructed road course at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The schedule, which was prepared and approved by the CART Competition Committee, includes practice and qualifying sessions plus three support races in addition to the main event, the Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix presented by Herdez, set to commence at 3:00 p.m. localtime (4:00 p.m. EST), March 11.

The general public will be permitted access to the facility for the first time beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8. All three-support race series will be on track for practice on Thursday. The Copa McCormick Campeonato Mustangs will be the first to practice starting at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Ford Focus Celebrity Race drivers. The Dayton Indy Lights will practice at 2:00 p.m. followed by a second round of practices for the Mustangs and Ford Focus competitors to conclude the day.

Champ Car drivers will take to the track for the first time at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9. They will practice again in the afternoon followed by Ford Focus Celebrity qualifying, Dayton Indy Lights qualifying and Copa McCormick Campeonato Mustang qualifying. There will also be a CART Fan Appreciation Autograph session at the facility at 4:15 p.m.

Saturday, March 10 will be highlighted by Champ Car practice at 9:45 a.m., and qualifying at 1:45 p.m. Additionally, there will be another round of Dayton Indy Lights practice and qualifying plus the 10-lap Ford Focus Celebrity Race at 12:15 and the 20-lap Copa McCormick Campeonato Mustang race at 3:15 p.m.

The final day, Sunday, March 11, will begin with a Dayton Indy Lights practice/warm-up at 8:45 a.m. The Copa McCormick Campeonato Mustangs will race for the second day at 10:00 a.m. with the Champ Cars taking to the track for their final practice/warm-up at 11:00 a.m. There will be a second Ford Focus Celebrity race at 12:15 p.m. followed by the Indy Lights race, which will be run at 1:00 p.m. The start of the Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix presented by Herdez is set for 3:00 p.m. It will be the last event of the day.

Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc., city and state officials from Monterrey and Nuevo Leon, as well as event promoter Pat Patrick, partner Gerald Forsythe and Tecate announced the Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix in April of 2000. The track is located in northern Mexico at Fundidora Park in the middle of Monterrey. Just two-and-a-half hours by car from Laredo, Texas and less than an hour by plane from Houston, Texas the 2.1-mile Fundidora Park course will feature 12 turns and three chicanes. Fundidora Park covers roughly 172 acres and is just four minutes from downtown Monterrey. Surrounded by the Sierra Madre mountains there are many routes into and out of the city including excellent highways and Monterrey's international airport, which offers daily flights to and from many cities in Mexico and the United States. CART last raced in Mexico in 1981, at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriques located in Mexico City.
