CHAMPCAR/CART: Monterrey: RuSPORT Saturday report

A.J. Allmendinger, ...

A.J. Allmendinger, #10
Qualified 11th 1:15.673 / 100.094-mph

"We started making progress. By far the car was the best that it's felt all weekend in the second qualifying session. We're just way behind being a new team to the series and no data from this track. Honestly, we could just use a couple more practice sessions, but obviously we're not going to get them. I'm not happy with 11th, but I'm pleased with the progress we've made and the car is drivable. We hopefully have a direction now for the warm-up and race tomorrow, and I think that's important."

David Brown, Senior Race Engineer

"We are improving every time we run the car, learning more and more about it, but we're still a long way behind. We hope to improve again for tomorrow and subsequent sessions we go out in."

Jeremy Dale, Team President

"I don't think the change in the qualifying format had any profound effect on us today. We're definitely struggling a little bit with the race track and with giving the guys the tools they need to get the job done. AJ did a good job and put the car in 11th, a respectable performance. He's definitely carrying the car right now, but that's just what you have to do at this race track because it's very slick and the cars are moving around a lot. The drivers just have to carry the cars a bit."

Michel Jourdain Jr., #9
Qualified 13th 1:15.805 / 99.920-mph

Michel Jourdain Jr.

"It a disappointing qualifying position. The car is pretty far off from where we want to be. We made some changes to the car prior to the qualifying session and it helped the car, but obviously not enough."

Jeremy Dale, Team President

"Michel was handicapped a little bit because we made some major changes on the car between the two sessions and he missed the 10 minute qualifying warm-up. He didn't get a chance to get a feel for where the car was (prior to qualifying). And of course we're limited to 15 laps that he can run in qualifying, so he essentially used his first group of laps to get a feel for the car. Under normal circumstances he would get a couple of changes, today he only really got one shot. We're trying to make the car quicker and Michel did the best he could with what he had."
