McDONALD'S DRIVER BOURDAIS GUARANTEED FRONT ROW START WITH PROVISIONAL POLE FOR TECATE/TELMEX MONTERREY GRAND PRIX; PACIFICARE DRIVER JUNQUEIRA SECOND
Sebastien Bourdais, No. 1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "This is a good start for the McDonald's team. Everybody is working hard and it pays off. Obviously the McDonald's car has been strong at this track and I'm glad it continued today. We have been consistent at the venues we have experience on and that is a huge help. We can concentrate on improving the car instead of getting a good race set-up. The heat was a factor in qualifying and with the predicted temperatures being higher for race day, I expect it's going to be worse in the race. It is a low speed track so you don't get much air in the car. That might be the toughest part of the weekend. We always want to be in the position to try for pole. Now we are going to try for another point in final qualifying and a win on Sunday."
Bruno Junqueira, No. 2 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I knew the PacifiCare car would be good straightway. We ran well in the qualifying warm-up and I tried to go for pole in qualifying. I was pushing really hard in qualifying and ran good laps. On the last corner of the last lap I braked too late and hit the curb and lost a couple of tenths. Maybe I could have been closer to Sebastien's time or a little ahead but I will work to improve tomorrow. I feel pretty good, pretty confident. I think I will have a good car for qualifying and a good car for the race. I'm really happy with Newman/Haas. We have been going back and forth in different cars, at different tracks since Long Beach and it's really nice to show up here really strong. Sebastien is very strong on this track. I came here with the mindset that I can do as well as Sebastien; not just here, but everywhere."
ON THE SCHEDULE TOMORROW: The morning practice session will take place from 10:30-11:30 AM CT while final qualifying will take place from 2:00-3:00 PM. The new 30-minute Bridgestone Pole Qualifying Show will air at 8:30 p.m. ET. on Saturday night while the race can be seen on a same-day, tape delayed basis on SPEED TV at 11 p.m. Eastern Time Sunday.
