Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix 2001 presented by Herdez

Car #16, Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Firestone
Time: 1 minute, 18.381 seconds
"For sure we are disappointed with the qualifying session. We had a very good car in the final practice this morning but at the very end of the session we didn't get a chance to run the final set of tires.
"In qualifying, I ran into a lot of traffic in the early part of the session. The car had a lot of oversteer and we made a change that didn't work. I made a couple of little mistakes on good laps that really cost us.
"But the car is very good. It is a long race and if I concentrate and make no mistakes we can still have a good result. I have made it harder work for tomorrow but I feel we can still fight for a good position."
* Jourdain is one of only two Champ Car drivers to have circulated on this track prior to this weekend (along with Vasser) while participating in the official track opening in February, 2001.
* Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix 2001 presented by Herdez marks Jourdain's 82nd start in the CART FedEx Championship Series and his 79th consecutive start (beginning at Vancouver in 1996), placing him fifth among active drivers in consecutive career starts.
* At his first event, Long Beach 1996, Jourdain made history by becoming the youngest driver ever to start a Champ Car event at 19 years, six months and two days old.
* Best finishes to date:
Jourdain: 7th place at Elkhart Lake's Road America in 1999 and the streets of Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia in 2000. Herdez Bettenhausen: 2nd place: Gateway, 1997 with Patrick Carpentier and Milwaukee, 1998 with Helio Castroneves.
