Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix at Fundidora Park, Monterrey, Mex. May 20-22, 2005 -- Round 2 of 14
Race Distance: 257.341 kilometers/159.904 miles (76 laps on the 2.104-mile permanent road course).
Potenza Race Tires Supplied: Bridgestone delivered 700 dry-condition and 320 wet-condition Potenza race tires for use this weekend. All were produced at the Bridgestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio. For this event, Bridgestone has brought a single dry-tire specification and a single wet-tire specification, allowing every driver equal footing on the racetrack.
* Dry-condition tires ("slicks"): Each car receives eight sets of slicks (32 tires) for the weekend, to use in the practice, qualifying and race sessions. Bridgestone Motorsport engineers have chosen their most popular road-course tire specification for this weekend. It contains the compound formula with the most grip -- the "softest" prime specification available in the Bridgestone road course inventory (excluding the alternate specs used at selected tracks). The same tire was run at Monterrey last season.
* Wet-condition tires ("rains"): Each car receives up to four new sets of grooved-tread Potenza rain tires per weekend on road and street courses, as needed. In addition, each car may use two sets of same-spec rain tires issued at a previous event. Bridgestone has two rain-tire specifications at its disposal, a more durable one for the faster road circuits and a softer version for the slower, tighter tracks. The softer rain tire is available this weekend.
Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport:
"Monterrey is always a great event, with all of the passionate, knowledgeable fans that come out for the race every year. As a company, we're very involved in the Mexican market -- in fact, we recently broke ground on a new facility in Monterrey -- so this is the perfect venue for Bridgestone to showcase its technical capabilities. We have a good deal of experience with this track now and we're certain we've found just the right tire to maximize performance and durability here. The tire we brought here last season performed flawlessly, so we've brought the same specification this year."
