Herdez competition announces number change beginning at this weekend's Bridgestone Grand Prix of Monterey, the Herdez Competition entry will sport a new car number, 55.
"This is the next step in a long line of changes and adjustments that we've been making to the team since 2000," explained Managing Director Keith Wiggins. "It's really just a part of the continued development of the new team called Herdez Competition from the legacy of Bettenhausen Motorsports. While it's not one of the more 'technical' changes we've made, we feel it is significant in its own way."
While not admitting to being superstitious, Wiggins admits some thoughts of attempting to change the team's luck. "Given the unusual and unexplainable nature of some of the things that have happened to us this season, we felt this was as good a time as any to make the change. I don't really believe in luck; however if there is such a thing, we're doing everything we can to change ours for the better!"
Mario Domínguez - Driver
"Laguna Seca is a track that I really like to race - in fact, I started my racing career there back in 1992 on this track in the Formula Mazda Series! I think I did something like 18 races there that season and of course I've been back there the past few years in Indy Lights too. Even though they've changed the track configuration a little bit over the past few years, I probably have more experience in a race car at this track than anywhere else in the world! For me, I think the most challenging corner on the whole circuit is Turn 6 because it's a blind corner and you are coming into it really fast. You really have to rely on your instincts to get through there! I'm looking forward to getting out to Monterey - we stayed on a few days after CART's Sneak Preview back in February and did some additional testing which was pretty successful for us."
* The Bridgestone Grand Prix of Moneterey Featuring the Shell 300 marks Domínguez's fifth start in the CART FedEx Championship Series.
* Domínguez's currently stands 18th in the Drivers Championship with two points. He leads the Jim Trueman Rookie of the Year standings over fellow Indy Lights graduate, Townsend Bell.
