INSTANT REPLAY: Max Papis ties a 20-year-old CART FedEx Championship Series record by using clever fuel strategy to climb from a 25th-place starting spot to win last year's Honda Grand Prix of Monterey Featuring the Shell 300 at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Papis stopped for fuel four times in the first 13 laps of the event, but would pit only once more the rest of the way in earning his third career victory by .794 seconds ahead of Memo Gidley. Gidley employed a similar pit strategy enroute to the best finish of his CART career, placing second after starting 23rd. Polesitter Gil de Ferran would round out the podium with a third-place finish despite leading 36 of the 83 laps, enabling him to widen his series points lead while PacWest rookie Scott Dixon capped off a strong weekend that saw him qualify third with a fourth-place run.
