CONDITIONS VARIABLE

Mont-Tremblant, Quebec -- It turned out to be a topsy-turvy day in Mont-Tremblant today, courtesy of the changeable weather in the area and Minardi Team USA drivers Robert Doornbos and 'Speedy' Dan Clarke experienced the repercussions of the quickly changing track conditions. The final qualifying session started out with rain, dried out, and then rained again at the end. The timing of when to fit slick tires in the session was crucial, and even though both drivers were exchanging fastest time throughout the session, they missed out on it at the end, which would have guaranteed a spot on the front row. Robert and Dan's starting positions remain the same as yesterdays--fifth and tenth, respectively.

Robert Doornbos Starting Position 5

"It was a lottery out there today. With the changing conditions on the circuit, it was hectic. I think we deserve to start better than fifth, as we have shown all weekend that we are fast enough to be on the front row. I got the maximum out of the car at the end as we had it set-up, but we got caught out with the track drying much quicker than we thought. It doesn't matter, though; we'll focus on tomorrow, and try to get the best result we can. We know we can run at the front, so that's what we will try to do."

'Speedy' Dan Clarke Starting Position 10

"It has been a difficult day for us. We missed out in this morning's practice, and my crew really had to thrash to get the gearbox put back together for qualifying. I have to give it to them for working so hard to have the car ready for me. We went out on slicks, and I was improving my time every lap, still in P1. I knew everyone else was catching up to me, and I was really pushing. Unfortunately, I spun in the chicane and then we ran out of laps. It's a bummer, but I have to remain positive and look towards tomorrow's race. I'm going to do my best to bring home a good result."

Keith Wiggins, Team Co-owner

"Considering the conditions, it was quite clear at the beginning of the qualifying session that it was best to be out on wet tires. It was equally clear that as the track surface was drying quickly towards the end of the session, it was necessary to be on slicks. You also needed to be on track on the last lap, but unfortunately, both of our drivers had run out of laps by that time. Nonetheless, we know we have very fast cars, and there's no reason we shouldn't have a good race."

Paul Stoddart, Team Co-owner

"It was obviously very tricky out there in such changeable conditions, but between them, Dan and Robert were P1 and P2 at various times during the session. It's therefore a shame that we ran out of laps when the track was at its best, towards the end of the session. As we saw at last weekend's race in Cleveland, though, where you start is not necessarily where you finish, and we look forward to a strong race tomorrow from both our drivers."
