WEST ALLIS, Wis., (May 30, 1998) - Canadian Patrick Carpentier won his second career pole this season and set a new track record at The Milwaukee Mile, lapping the 1.032-mile oval in 20.028 seconds at 186.500 mph. He will share the front row with his cou ntryman and teammate Greg Moore, who was a hair slower at 20.102 seconds at 184.817 mph.

Andre Ribeiro will lineup on the inside of row two with the third fastest qualifyin g lap at 20.138 seconds (184.487 mph). Michael Andretti will start next to Ribeiro after a quick lap of 20.185 seconds (184.057 mph).

In the second KOOL Reynard-Honda, Paul Tracy could not find the best setup for his car and qualified 14th on the grid. Tracy made his way around the course in 20.685 seconds at 179.608 mph. More encouraging however, he was fastest in the final afternoon practice session. He lapped the oval in 20.804 seconds at 178.581 mph.

Tomorrow's 200-lap race at The Milwaukee Mile begins at 12:30 p.m. local time and will be broadcast live on ESPN at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Paul Tracy, #26 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Qualified 14th with a lap-time of 20.685 seconds at 179.608 mph)

"I think we didn't react to the cooler weather as good as we could have. It's frustrating; I thought we should have been in the top five and we're 14th. It's going to be a long race and we've got a couple of good sets of tires, so maybe I can bring us t owards the front. But it's going to take a lot of work."

Dario Franchitti, #27 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Qualified 6th with a lap-time of 20.406 seconds at 182.064 mph)

"I pushed a little harder than I did this morning. I was right on the limit both going into the corners and coming out. I had a fraction of understeer into the corners and the car was a little nervous coming out. But Team KOOL Green gave me a great car and I'm relatively pleased with where we'll be starting tomorrow's race."

Barry Green, Team KOOL Green owner:

"I'm really pleased with where Dario qualified and very disappointed with where Paul ended up. We failed to give Paul the car that he needs to qualify well. We just couldn't find the final 2/10ths for him in qualifying. Hopefully, we can have one of our normal races and it will all come good for both of them."
