MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (May 31, 2002)-- Team Motorola had a slow start to their weekend after a variety of problems kept them to minimum of laps in the morning session. The fuel pressure problem and damper leak that ended their morning session couldn't be fixed immediately so the team went to their back-up car for the afternoon session and had a much better practice. "During the final part of the afternoon we clicked into the areas where we need to improve the race car," said Kim Green. "So we're making progress and I think we're in good shape." Michael was 15th overall in today's practice with a time of 22.842 seconds (162.648 mph).

Adrian Fernandez set today's quickest time with a 22.021 second lap (168.712 mph), while Kenny Brack was second at 22.535 seconds (164.864 mph) and rookie Mario Dominguez rounded out the top three at 22.586 seconds (164.491 mph). Paul Tracy, Michael's technical partner, was 8th on the day with a time of 22.772 seconds (163.148 mph) while Dario Franchitti was 9th with a time of 22.774 seconds (163.133 mph). Team Motorola is currently in sixth place in the CART FedEx Championship with 22 points, while Michael's technical partner, Dario Franchitti is the leader with 34 points.

Team Motorola will continue practice tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. and then qualify at 1:45 p.m. CST. The race is Sunday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m. CST and will be shown live on CBS.

Michael has won in Milwaukee on five occasions; 1986, '87, '91, '92 and '96. Michael has finished in the top-five in Milwaukee in 13 of 17 races. Michael scored his first Champ Car pole in Milwaukee in 1986 then led 110 laps en-route to victory that year. Michael leads all active Champ Car drivers with 293 race starts, 42 wins, 32 poles and 6,563 laps led.

Michael Andretti -- #39 Honda-Lola-Bridgestone "Right in the last run I think we started to improve the car. In fact, I think we have a car that was pretty quick but we weren't able to get through the traffic and see exactly what we can do but we are definitely moving in the right direction. We lost track time this morning with a variety of problems and that hurts a little bit when we haven't been able to test. I think now we know what we're looking for so we'll just get back to work in the morning. "
Friday Morning Practice Friday Afternoon Practice Combined Practice Position 25th Position 13th Position 15th Speed 157.058 mph Speed 162.648 mph Speed 162.648 mph Time 23.655 seconds Time 22.842 seconds Time 22.842 seconds

Kim Green -- General Manager "Coming into Milwaukee we took a bit of a risk since we hadn't tested with our new Lola chassis. We started with a baseline setup and it really didn't appear to be what we needed so we've had to work away at that today. During the final part of the afternoon session we clicked into the areas where we need to improve the race car so we're making progress. In this morning's session we lost track time because of a problem with our fuel pressure and also a slight problem with a rear damper leak so that put us back a little bit. Overall, to expect to be absolutely on the pace with these new cars is extremely optimistic so in all fairness I think we're in pretty good shape and that Team Motorola has done a good job today."
