CHAMPCAR/CART: Milwaukee Tasman Qualifying Report

Tony Kanaan, ...

Tony Kanaan, #21 LCI Reynard-Honda (Starting 26th): "We improved the car almost a half second from this morning. It's not bad but it is still not enough. We are still a second-and-a-half off. We made a little improvement and we need to just keep working. The weather wasn't good when we came to test here so that put us a little bit behind. The biggest problem is the car feels very light in the rear. It's not a big loose but it doesn't give me the confidence to go fast."

Cristiano da Matta crashed before taking the green flag in qualifying. Da Matta hit the wall in Turn Four and was taken to the CART Medical Facility for evaluation. He was released with an abrasion on his left foot, and is cleared to drive in tomorrow's race.

Cristiano da Matta, #2 Medley/LCI Lola (Starting 22nd): "Physically, I think I will be all right for tomorrow. It's always difficult to say about the pain and how I will feel tomorrow. Right now, the upper part of my body is fine. My knees are a little bit sore. The biggest problem is the left foot but it is still not a big deal. Once we get the car fixed, we will be able to race and try to score some nice points tomorrow."

Steve Horne, Team Owner: "We had a mechanical failure on the rear of the car. The damage to the car was pretty severe but we will have it fixed for tomorrow."

Airton Dare, #1 Banestado/LCI Lola (Starting 15th): "It's a lot hotter now than it was during our practice and we had a big oversteer everywhere -- the opposite of what we had this morning.
