ZWOLSMAN READY FOR FIRST OVAL CHALLENGE IN MILWAUKEE, RANGER BACK FOR ANOTHER RACE WITH MI-JACK CONQUEST RACING
Indianapolis, Indiana, May 31, 2006 -- Rookie Charles Zwolsman will be living a new experience this weekend as he, his teammate Andrew Ranger and the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team head to the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin to take part in the only oval race on the 2006 Champ Car World Series calendar, the Time Warner Cable Road Runner 225.
This weekend will mark the first time Dutchman Charles Zwolsman participates in a race on an oval track. He had never driven on that type of track before his rookie test in April at the Milwaukee Mile and was "pretty impressed" his first time out on the historic one-mile oval. First impressions aside, Zwolsman now knows what to expect once he goes out on track for practice in his GoldenPalace.com Casino sponsored car, but he looks to the race as a whole new learning experience.
"This is going to be my first oval race. It will be a new experience for me in a racing environment that I am not used to. The rookie test in April allowed me to get used to the track and get a good feel for the car on an oval, but everything will be different during the race with a full field of cars," explained Zwolsman. "As for my goals this weekend, I want to finish the race in the highest position possible and gain as much experience as I can."
After a strong run in Monterrey two weeks ago, Andrew Ranger will be returning to drive the #27 car as well as get the chance to defend his fourth place in the driver's standings. Ranger was one of the fastest cars on the track in last season's race at the Milwaukee Mile before an incident past the midway point of the race took him out. For his second attempt, he would like to be as quick as last year, but this time, make it to the end of the 225 laps.
"I'm happy to be racing in Milwaukee this weekend with the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team. Since our last oval race was in Las Vegas last September it might take a few laps to get back into it, but fortunately we have a full day of testing on Friday to do that. We were quick here last year during the race. I hope we can be as quick this year and that we can pick up as many points as possible to stay in the top four in the driver's standings."
The two-day race weekend will be preceded by six hours of testing on Friday, June 2 for the Champ Car World Series drivers and teams. Practice and qualifying will take place Saturday, June 3 and The Time Warner Cable Road Runner 225 will get underway Sunday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
