Potenza Race Tires Supplied: Seven sets of dry-condition tires ("slicks") per car, meaning Bridgestone shipped nearly 600 race tires to Milwaukee for use this weekend. Produced at the Bridgestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio, this specification of Potenza will supply more grip than drivers have likely experienced with tires used at Milwaukee in the past. These tires certainly have a Midwest flavor about them because the same spec will also be employed for the Chicago race in late June.

What is "stagger" anyway? To help a car turn more naturally and smoothly on ovals, the circumference of the right rear tire is slightly greater than the circumference of the left rear tire. This is called "stagger." The stagger is minute (only about 0.42 inches for this weekend's Bridgestone tires), but it is a huge asset for drivers trying to negotiate the intricacies of the Milwaukee Mile.

Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "It is good to get back in the swing of things in the FedEx Championship Series following the May hiatus, and we look forward to showing off the versatility of the Bridgestone Potenza race tires in the coming weeks. CART will race six times in the next seven weeks on a variety of circuits: short ovals, permanent road courses, temporary street courses, even an airport runway. Drivers and teams must be up to the unique challenges of each, and so must the tires. Our first test comes on the historic Milwaukee Mile this weekend. It is an oval that demands much from tires, including consistent fast speeds and control under braking and cornering. The Bridgestone Motorsport engineers have great confidence in the tire specification they developed for this race. The compound mixture provides excellent, lasting grip while the tire construction delivers the balance and control mandatory on the compact mile oval. We're looking forward to the Bridgestone tires contributing to another exciting race in the long history of the Milwaukee Mile."

The Official Tire of CART: Bridgestone joins the FedEx Championship Series in 2002 as the Official Tire of CART and, as such, will supply all teams with Bridgestone Potenza racing radials. While it is Bridgestone's first year in this series, the tire manufacturer boasts an enviable racing heritage spanning four decades.

Tune In: The Miller Lite 250 will be shown nationally on CBS-TV at 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
